Группа родилась в самом эпицентре возрождения surf музыки в конце восьмидесятых-начале девяностых, под влиянием таких музыкантов как Dick Dale, Shadows, Ventures, Link Wray, Arthur Lyman и Ennio Morricone. Cтиль группы отличают элементы латинской музыки и сильное влияние музыки Средиземноморья, немного психоделики, рокабилли и даже нео "lounge" музыки, которая так популярна в ночных клубах Северного Побережья. Свой дебютный одноименный альбом, спродюссированный самой группой и вышедший в 1992 году на лейбле Riptide/Heyday Records ребята готовили в течении четырех лет, записывая треки в гараже фирменной автомастерской Porsche, где Линдер работал механиком. Спустя три года появился альбом Surfmania на лейбле WEA/Atlantic, за ним последовал диск 1996 года Nomad на Milan Records для Entertainment/BMG и Guitar Noir, вышедший в 1997 году. Записывая альбом Guitar Noir, Aqua Velvets попробовали комбинировать свое фирменное звучание с различными музыкальными нюансами из произведений любимых композиторов, писавших музыку для кинофильмов 50-х и 60-х годов.
The band was born at the very epicenter of the surf music renaissance in the late eighties and early nineties, influenced by artists such as Dick Dale, Shadows, Ventures, Link Wray, Arthur Lyman and Ennio Morricone. The style of the group is distinguished by elements of Latin music and a strong influence of Mediterranean music, a little psychedelic, rockabilly and even the neo "lounge" music that is so popular in the nightclubs of the North Coast. Their debut self-titled album, produced by the group itself and released in 1992 on the Riptide / Heyday Records label, the guys had been preparing for four years, recording tracks in the garage of the Porsche car repair shop, where Linder worked as a mechanic. Three years later, Surfmania appeared on the WEA / Atlantic label, followed by 1996's Nomad on Milan Records for Entertainment / BMG and Guitar Noir in 1997. Recording the Guitar Noir album, Aqua Velvets tried to combine their signature sound with various musical nuances from the works of their favorite composers who wrote music for films of the 50s and 60s.
