Well, the summer's gone, the harvest past
And still we are not saved
Still slaving for what's called riches
Tryin' to take 'em to our grave
And I'd say the harvest is past
Look around you, none of this can last.
Well, the best among us perish,
While the worst among us thrive
Thieves and beggars prosper
While good men wither and die
Trying to build a tower to Heaven,
All we found were some empty clouds
Then we shruggedd our shoulders
And we come back down.
Which have eyes and see not
Which have ears and hear not
The prophets' prophecies are false
On shifting sands they built their house
And I'd say the summer is gone
Look around you, watch it all come down.
It was the hubris of the blessed few
That brought us to our knees
It was the ignorance of the rest of us
That let them do just as they please
Trying to build a tower to Heaven
We fell down a ladder to Hell
Well, if you ask me, Lord, it's just as well.
All this is ludicrous, none of this can last
We thought it would last forever
Now our best years are in our past
