“Mother's Voice”
Sitting in the cinema as the lights went down, it was the start of the opening scene.
She was twelve years old, when the projector rolled and images flashed on the screen.
The movie was a fantasy about the second world war and even though she was cold.
She sat licking ice cream, her eyes glued to the screen, watching the drama unfold,
When the heroine died, it was a defining moment and one that left a lasting impression.
She knew at that point there was no going back, acting would be her chosen profession.
When she told her mother, that was her dream, she was met with doubt and suspicion.
She said it's a fickle trade, actor's don't get paid and you will suffer for your ambition.
Laying in bed that night, in the dim lamplight, it was time for her to make a choice.
To either become an actress and follow her heart or listen to her mother's voice.
