it's only warm when the sun goes down
something's gone wrong in the world
there's a dog gently pacing
pacing gently in the yard outside my window
not my window
not my yard
what makes something yours?
my window cause my eyes are on it through it
when i leave this house this window will never be mine again
it'll be Kim's
& maybe some other guest sitting at Kim's desk
or some child who will know this window all her life
& will forever call it hers
will she know that for a week it was mine?
doesn't matter really
i should leave her a note on the floor board:
once this window was mine
& the tree outside was standing
& the cat against the wall belonged to no one
that cat was no one's mine
the cat knew only freedom
& hiding when it rained
& that cat knew only freedom & what it meant to be alone
that cat belonged to no one
knew freedom
knew hiding
knew sliding under fences
knew a lover twice
knew kittens...left
hid in the rain rather from the rain
hid because of the rain
two litters of kittens left
that cat belonged to no one
knew freedom
knew fear
the dog on the other side of the fence
this morning my friend saved a cat from the jaws of dog
the cat belonged to no one until it did
death reigned
no where to hide
some dog took away it's freedom
all the walking and the hiding & the freedom flashed before its eyes
that cat belonged to no one until it did
& it died
before it died it died locked in the jaws of some dog
the dog never knew freedom
i imagine that's why the dog ate it
the taste of freedom cost equals life
freedom the price of life
the cat died but kept on walking & breathing
and never hid from the rain again
i am just trying to get by
