I've spent so much time looking in the tops
of other peoples' eyeballs,
Wondering what it is that keeps the water
from the sky,
Here comes the shadow wall,
To teach me about those racing strips.
Another look my way
Another empty gaze
Another pick up
Another put down for me
I've spent so many nights sleeping
in a dry river bed,
Wondering what keeps my feet,
From the gutter moon rising over head
Comes the same defeat repeats defeat.
Just a little more air in a world of time "baby"
But repetition turns the words curves to angles,
It must sound different sleeping through your mind,
Than it does wrapping around my ankles.
