The moment had come to depart the land
To brave the sea and journey sands
Of endless wild terrain
By smoke and blaze he did sustain the camps
The vagabonds perused the trail
And built a home of fine detail
Half a century went by 'fore we could taste the sweet delight
A myriad of excuses begin to clog the mind
As he finally stands upright
And even still he has to pause and gaze outside
Before leaving the vacant cage
That could not nearly cultivate
The magnitude of what lay dormant
Now his lids begin to raise
Down the rabbit hole to a wall of photographs
Echoing times passed
I knew it from the first drop-kick I felt in the courtyard
Of the town we grew up in
Every glint within the bastions of my perception
Could have told you what I felt in hardly a fortnight
I wish that you would rise
Your chariot is waiting right outside
How many moons had gone by
Till he had opened his eyes
The city lights saw the sky
The names had changed by and by
Forgotten had been long found
And lost again without sound
The woodland island did remain arcane to all of those around
How effortlessly it seems
The petals fall by the stream
The stallions pick up their speed
And race beyond his own dreams
Across purple majesties
And through the kingdoms of green
The view he takes in from the heights is more than he could have foreseen
Somewhere down the line
He meets a child of four or five
And she inquires of him
"Tell me what it's all about"
He just looks at her and smiles
"Though it's taken me quite a while
It's better to be outside looking in
Than to be inside looking out"
