The sorrows of death compassed me
And the floods made me afraid
The sorrows of hell compassed me
And the snares of death prevented me
In distress I called unto God
And he heard my cries
He parted the heavens and came down
And darkness was under his feet
He sent from above, he drew me out of the water
Delivering me from my enemies
He teacheth my hands to war
And my fingers to fight
It is God that stands with me
And brings them to fright
The heathen cries unto heaven
Yet the Lord remains silent
(Psalm 18)
