Holding firm through every season
Through my own contempt for reason
Empty spaces where our words dwelled
Climbing up one hundred stairwells
Moments when the secret passage
twists in a relentless fashion
We have no desire to find our way
Yet here we are, standing strong
In the midst of it all
And we don’t really need another path to take
We don’t need another heartache
Dodging eyes of condemnation
Breathing deep in our salvation
People pull with tireless passion
Stretching limbs in each direction
One who claims to know what’s true by
pasting thoughts with thread and glue
They’re filling broken bottles with new wine
Clinging to what’s left in us alive
We’re waiting for the chaos to subside
And I’m breathing in the stillness of your heart
The hope for release, for peace
Here we are, standing strong
