"Садок священник" – это богослужебное песнопение, написанное Генделем в 1727 по случаю коронации Георга II. В оригинальном сочинении использовался текст из англоязычной Библии. Это один из четырёх коронационных антифонов, которые Гендель сочинил для нового короля Англии. Они исполнялись при всех последующих британских коронационных службах.
Тексты для всех четырёх гимнов выбрал сам композитор – к неудовольствию священнослужителей, вынужденных совершать помазание монарха на престол под такие ужасные, как им казалось песни. Тексты, впрочем, были все из Библии, под некоторой только редакцией Генделя. В них повествовалось о восшествии на престол Иудеи царя Соломона, о том, как священник Садок совершает помазание, и о том, как народ этому весьма радуется, так что земля расседается о криков его.
С того времени, как Гендель создал "Садок священника" прошло 265 лет и вот в 1992 году УЕФА поручил Тони Бриттену придумать гимн для Лиги Чемпионов, которую тогда создали. И гимн был скомпонован на основе коронационного антифона Генделя. Исполнил его академический хор церкви "St. Martin's in the Fields" (Лондон) сразу на трёх официальных языках УЕФА, английском, немецком и французском, в сопровождении Королевского филармонического оркестра.

"Sadok Priest" is a liturgical chant, written by Ghendel in 1727 on the occasion of the coronation of George II. In the original essay, the text from the English-speaking Bible was used. This is one of the four coronation antifones that Handel composed for the new king of England. They were performed with all subsequent British coronation services.
Texts for all four hymns chose the composer himself - to the displeasure of clergy, forced to admonish the monarch to the throne under such terrible, as they seemed to them. Texts, however, were all from the Bible, under some editors of Handel. They were narrowing about the weighing for the throne of the Jews of King Solomon, about how the priest Sadok makes anointing, and about how the people of this very rejoices, so the Earth is crying about his shouts.
Since Henndel created a "priest's saddle", 265 years have passed and in 1992 UEFA instructed Tony Britten to come up with a hymn for the Champions League, which then created. And the anthem was compounded on the basis of the coronation antifone of Handel. His academic church choir "St. Martin's in The Fields" (London) immediately on three official languages of UEFA, English, German and French, accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
