«С этого лермонтовского стихотворения началась, можно сказать, история 3-ст[опног]> хорея в русской поэзии; более ранние образцы его, за редкими исключениями, забылись. Любопытно, что немецкий оригинал написан вовсе не 3-ст[опным] хореем, а неравноиктным (вольным) дольником; 3-ст[опным] хореем у Гёте звучит лишь первая строка — она и подсказала Лермонтову (а потом Чролли) выбор русского размера.
Содержание стихотворения Гёте и Лермонтова — 6 строк описания успокоенной природы и 2 строки — обещание успокаивающей смерти. Природа и смерть так и останутся в числе излюбленных тем этого размера».

Вольный перевод стихотворения Гёте Ночная песня странника (II) — Wanderers Nachtlied. II. Ein Gleiches (;ber allen Gipfeln…). Датируется 1840 г. Автограф не найден. По воспоминаниям А. Н Струговщикова, стихотворение было написано в конце ноября 1840 года, когда автор воспоминаний встретил Лермонтова у В. А. Соллогуба: «На вопрос его < Лермонтова >: не перевел ли я „Молитву путника“ Гете? я отвечал, что с первой половиной сладил, а во второй — недостает мне её певучести и неуловимого ритма, „А я, напротив, мог только вторую половину перевести“, сказал Лермонтов и тут же, по просьбе моей, набросал мне на клочке бумаги свои „Горные вершины“» («Русск. старина», 1874, № 4, стр. 712). Однако Струговщиков несомненно ошибся: в ноябре 1840 года Лермонтов был уже на Кавказе.

Ночная песнь странника. (Гете). Стихи, известные по недосягаемо-прекрасному переводу Лермонтова: «Горные вершины». В приведённом переводе сделана попытка сохранить ритм подлинника. Более определенно пользовался Гете свободным стихом в отрывке «Прометей» и некоторых других стихотворениях. Приёмы Гете у нас были повторены Андреем Белым в стихах книги «Золото в лазури»; в последнее время в той же манере развивают свободный стих наши футуристы, В. Маяковский и др. Этот стих существенно отличается от французского свободного стиха (vers libre), как он был основан М. Крысинской, Лафоргом и др., и мастерски развит Э. Верхарном, Ф. Вьеле-Гриффином и др. Во французском vers libre каждый стих сохраняет свою ритмическую целостность; в немецком (также у Андрея Белого и футуристов) отдельные стихи — лишь элементы ритма, образуемого всем стихотворением или его частями. От свободного стиха должно отличать вольные стихи, то есть определенного метра, но разных стоп; так, «в простоте и вольности», слагал свою «Душеньку» И. Богданович и басни — И. Крылов.

р. даты и обстоятельства жизни почти неизвестны, родом из Красноярска
выпустил в 1915–1916 гг. две книжечки — «Сын Фауста» (по своему отчеству) и «Гуингм» (племя мудрых лошадей у Дж. Свифта)[1]. На обложках были высказывания А. Блока, А. Белого и других поэтов о том, что эти стихи очень плохи. Изобрел «диминуенду»: стихотворение из постепенно укорачивающихся строк.

Wanderer's Night Song. (Goethe). Poems, famous for the beautiful, unattainable Lermontov translation: "Mountain peaks". In the above translation is an attempt to maintain the rhythm of the original. More specifically used the free verse by Goethe in the passage, "Prometheus" and other poems.
