Итак, продолжение старой рубрики о безальбомных героях.
Британская группа Fortes Mentum и их синглография.
Коллектив сей образовался в Лондоне, в 1967-м году, дабы привнести в британскую сцену, качественного барокко-поп-рока и некоторую долю декаданса.
В состав команды входили: вокалист Франк Беннетт (Frank Bennett), гитарист Барри Кларк (Barry Clark), басист Рональд (почти Рейган) Реган (Ronald Regan), барабанщик Кит Гайлс (Keith Giles), клавишник Алан Ворд (Alan Ward) и пианист Дэнни Беккерман (Danny Beckerman). Да-да, в этой группе было два клавишника. Кстати, именно Дэнни Беккерману принадлежит авторство большинства материала Fortes Mentum.
Музыканты играли в таких лондонских клубах, как Starlight, Crawley, Whisky A Go Go, St. Moritz и Staircase Club. Обкатывалась программа и вырабатывался свой имидж. Собственно – имидж был таков: музыканты одевались как настоящие денди, в сюртуки и цилиндры, а также носили бакенбарды. В общем, в духе 19-го века.
Изначально группа вообще называлась Sons Of Chopin (сказывается любовь участников коллектива к классике и оркестровкам), но когда они послали свои демки руководству BBC, демки тем понравились, а вот название – нет, и музыкантам, чтобы попасть на радио, приходится сменить его. Так они и стали Fortes Mentum.
Первым синглом группы стал “Saga Of A Wrinkled Man” (с бисайдом “Mr. Partridge Passed Away Today”).
Песни были записаны на Morgan Studio, и вышли 29-го марта 1968-го на лейбле Parlophone Records.
Благодаря поддержке известного (а после смерти и скандально известного, но это уже совсем другая история) радио-DJ Джимми Сэвила (которому они послали свои записи, называясь еще как Sons Of Chopin с бюстом “папочки Шопена” в подарок), песня активно гоняется в эфире, что приносит Fortes Mentum некоторую известность.
Второй сингл “I Can't Go On Loving You”/“Humbdiggle We Love You” вышел 13-го сентября.
С ним случился забавный казус. Ну, точнее, не совсем с ним… История такая: музыканты пиарили свой новый сингл, разъезжая по ночному Лондону и расклеивая свои афиши везде, где только могли. Инцидент произошел на Оксфорд-стрит, когда под покровом ночи, музыканты увлеченно обклеивали витрину какого-то магазина и не сразу заметили подъезжающую полицейскую машину. Все (кроме Дэнни, который, проявив завидную прыть, сумел убежать) оказались арестованы. Во время допроса в участке музыканты поняли, что их пытаются обвинить в попытке проникновения в магазин с целью кражи, а они теперь, типа задержаны с поличным и все дела. Но к счастью, все обошлось, так как шеф полиции, как оказалось, слышал их по радио и с пожеланием удачи, музыканты вскоре были отпущены.
В начале 69-го Fortes Mentum отправились на гастроли в Германию, где выступили в гамбургском Top Ten Club и франкфуртском K52 Club. Также, они засветились на местном телевидении.
По возвращению на родину был записан третий сингл группы “Gotta Go”/“Marrakesh”, который вышел 21-го марта 69-го года.
Потом были еще одни гастроли в Германии. Но они оказались последними для группы, так как во время этих гастролей, отношения между их лидером – Дэнни и остальными музыкантами резко обострились. В результате чего, Дэнни покинул коллектив, который, пройдя через несколько смен составов, развалился, так и не записав долгоиграющую пластинку.
Ну а Дэнни с другим бывшим членом Fortes Mentum - гитаристом Барри Кларком, организует новый проект - крутейшую психоделическую группу Pussy, которая-таки запишет, хоть и всего один, но замечательный альбом!
